Best Honeymoon Picks from Virtuoso Travel Week

I just got back from an exhilarating Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas. Virtuoso is the world’s leading luxury travel network: the best hotels, cruise lines, tour companies and other travel companies undergo a strict vetting policy before they are allowed to join, ensuring the highest level of quality across the Virtuoso brand. It’s just as exclusive on the travel advisor side; we have to pass the rigorous standards to be a part of Virtuoso, and through that we’re able to offer our clients unique perks and extras that aren’t available to the general public. Virtuoso is considered the “best of the best” inLearn more

Honeymoon Travel Tip: A Word About Online Reviews

Today’s honeymoon travel tip is about online reviews. We all use them, and the sites that showcase them can be great! But they can also be misleading, as this recent Yahoo Travel article attests, alleging that Airbnb scrubs negative reviews from their sites. TripAdvisor has been accused of fake reviews, too, and was fined $600,000 in Italian courts in late 2014 to that end. I’m not saying that either site does those things. But on a personal note, I’ve been to so-so hotels with amazing reviews. And I’ve been to amazing honeymoon hotels that have less-than-stellar reviews online. My advice is to use review sitesLearn more

Top Southern California Destination Wedding Venues in USA TODAY Travel

We love Southern California for destination weddings; it’s sunny, accessible and home to a slew of amazing venues and vendors. We headed out earlier this summer to scout hotels for USA TODAY Travel, we found it hard to narrow it down to just 10 — but we managed. From an historic inn in Palm Springs built by a mobster to a sprawling contemporary resort perched on the bluff just south of Los Angeles, these 10 hotels were the cream of the crop.

Inside Engage! at Romantic NIZUC Resort in Riviera Maya

Earlier this summer I headed to Mexico to speak about honeymoons and destination weddings at the Engage! Luxury Wedding Business Summit. I’ve been going to this conference for quite a few years now, and it’s amazing for many reasons. First and foremost, at Engage! I get to connect with top event pros from all over the world, from amazing event planners to rock-star photographers, which expands my network of connections for our honeymoon and wedding clients. Secondly, the Engage! family is a tight-knit bunch, and many of my fellow attendees have turned into close friends, so it’s as much about community and having fun as it is about sharing intel and inspiration. Last but notLearn more

The Coolest Hotel in London

I love everything about London. The history, the shopping, the style — and of course, the hotels! One of my absolute favorites is Rosewood London, which opened to much fanfare in late 2013. From the outside, it looks very much a traditional English hotel, set in a circa-1914 building with stately iron gates marking the courtyard entrance. Inside, things get more interesting. I love the striped floor in the lobby, and the great collection of artwork and coffee table books make it feel more like a salon than a lobby. Design touches are everywhere, from the birdcages by the elevator to this hallway off theLearn more

Honeymoon Travel Tips: Time Your Flight Right

I travel a lot — averaging once a month for the past 15 years, as I check out hotels and destinations for honeymoons and destination weddings. Which means I’ve come up with a lot of  little travel survival strategies along the way, which I’ll pass on to you as honeymoon travel tips. For most of us, flights are the worst part about travel. That’s why one of my tried-and-true strategies is booking one of the earliest flights of the day, whenever possible. Why? Airline delays start to stack up as the day progresses. So if you’re booked on an afternoon or evening flight, chances are it’s onLearn more

Talking Bora Bora Honeymoons on Style Me Pretty

When it comes to honeymoons, one place towers above the rest: Bora Bora. It’s one of our favorite places, for sure; every time we fly into Bora Bora Airport and get that first glimpse of the stunning blue-green waters, our hearts melt. Add in the fact that the airport sits on an island and is only accessible by boat…well, you have a magical experience from the very start. When our friends at the uber-fab Style Me Pretty asked us share our favorite things about Bora Bora, we were honored to share! Check out the story here. If you’re thinking of an overwater honeymoon, we’d love to help you create the ultimateLearn more

Casa Palopo at Lake Atitlan

A Secret Honeymoon Villa in Guatemala

Most visitors to Guatemala head straight to the historic capital Antigua and leave it at that, but you’re missing out if you don’t head into the highlands. Lake Atitlan is the deepest lake in Central America; think Lake Tahoe only surrounded by rural villages and the Sierra Madres instead of the Rockies. It’s a three-hour drive from Guatemala City by car, or 30 minutes by helicopter (which is how the wealthy Guatemalans do it; many of them have second homes here). One of these homes has been turned into the sweetest boutique hotel, ideal for honeymoons or buyout weddings. Casa Palopo is a former villa-turned-9-room hotel,Learn more

Is This The Sexiest Honeymoon Resort in Seychelles?

We don’t like to make blanket statements, and there are a lot of amazing resorts in the Indian Ocean. But for honeymoons, it’s hard to beat this one. First of all, there’s the setting. MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa sits on its own peninsula in a marine preserve, so the views are second to none.   The digs are pretty sweet, too. The resort has 30 standalone villas, each with its own plunge pool. They’re centered around a main pool area with pool bar and pristine white-sand beach.   There are only two room categories: Signature Villa and Ocean Panoramic Villa. The main diference is whereLearn more
